With over a decade of legal experience across multiple areas of law and public service, Coy Travis is prepared to serve as Floyd County’s next Superior Court 3 Judge. His experience includes work as a Deputy Public Defender, attorney for the Indiana Department of Child Services, certified Guardian Ad Litem, and judge pro tempore—offering a broad, real-world understanding of our court system. Coy is committed to ensuring justice that is efficient, balanced, and accessible to all.
About Coy Travis

Coy Travis has practiced law in Indiana and Kentucky since 2012, representing clients in criminal defense, civil litigation, family law, and child welfare. He runs his own law firm in Floyd County and serves in several public service roles: as a Deputy Public Defender, Township Attorney for Franklin Township, certified Guardian Ad Litem, and judge pro tempore in Clarksville Town Court.
Coy also previously served as an attorney for the Indiana Department of Child Services, where he represented the state in child welfare cases. This experience deepened his understanding of how the legal system impacts children and families—and strengthened his commitment to fair, compassionate judicial service.

Coy understands that justice delayed is justice denied. He will work to streamline court processes, reduce backlogs, and ensure every case is heard in a timely, respectful manner.
Having served as a certified Guardian Ad Litem, public defender, and attorney for the Indiana Department of Child Services, Coy has seen firsthand how the courts impact families and children. He is committed to protecting their best interests and bringing clarity and compassion to family law matters.
Every person—no matter their background—deserves a fair chance in court. Coy will ensure that due process is upheld and that no one is left behind in the legal system.
Coy will approach each case without bias, political pressure, or outside influence. His decisions will be guided by the law and a firm belief in doing what’s right.

Superior Court 3 oversees problem-solving courts, and Coy believes in maximizing their potential. He will assess how these courts are currently used and explore ways to better leverage them to achieve long-term, positive outcomes for individuals and the community.
